Underground sinkholes are caused by natural geological processes or the collapse of old underground mines. Generally, naturally forming sinkholes are circular and may be up to 125 m in diameter. Additionally, they are steep sided and deep up to 50m. Usually, they occur with little warning. However, cracks in walls or settlement of the ground are often the early warning signs of impending sinkhole formation. Old mine workings sinkholes usually resemble the configuration of the old underground infrastructure/excavations.
Hoff Geotechnik offer full-turnkey services for grouting of underground sinkholes (including monitoring services). Our service offering offer rational designs and construction of stabilisation solutions specifically for the mining environment. In addition, our solutions are tailor-made to suit mining conditions and they encompass the full scope covering mining risk assessment and project execution. Over the last few years Hoff Geotechnik have gained significant experience on the grouting and monitoring of underground sinkholes. We have also developed proprietary systems to execute our projects. Our experience covers sinkholes/cavities caused by natural phenomenon (e.g. dolomite), as well as those caused by underground mining activities.
Why you require a specialised contractor for grouting of underground sinkholes/cavities? Firstly, this is a high risk activity with a potential for catastrophic events. Secondly, due to heightened need to maximise the budget, quality and turn-around time for the project. Finally, grouting of underground sinkholes require a specialised set equipment and skilled personnel to ensure quality and safe delivery.
For grouting of underground sinkholes, Hoff Geotechnik is able to offer cost-effective solutions using various methods such as:
- Gravity backfill
- High pressure grouting
- Sinkhole monitoring Services
- Subsidence monitoring
